Ulysses is a text editor for Apple Mac OS X, iPad, and iPhone. It is targeted at creative writers who do not want to worry about text layout, formatting, or other distractions, and who want to focus on the their words,^[1][2] although it does support Markdown for basic formatting.^[3]

Ulysses is a Mac-focused writing tool available in the Mac OS and iOS app store. It also automatically syncs files to Apple’s iCloud, so it’s heavily embedded in this entire ecosystem. If you’re in the Mac-obsessed writers crowd, this app is ideal. Ulysses App Pros #1. Ulysses has a single Library that houses all of your documents. Ulysses may develop into a truly great Mac app. It does need additional font support - it doesn't handle bold, italic, or underlined fonts. But at $120, Ulysses is far too expensive for what it does.

Ulysses was named after the novel Ulysses by James Joyce.

The Ulysses software was originally released for Mac OS and in version 2.5 support was added for iPhone and iPad.

The license for Ulysses has been a subscription model (SaaS) since version 11.^[4][5]
