Introduction: How to Install GitHub for Mac
Why install GitHub for Mac? The command line interface can be intimidating, hard to use, and you have to memorize all the commands. Additionally, GitHub has some specific features that are not part of Git. In this tutorial, we will install GitHub for Mac, a nice a free GUI for Git / GitHub.
GitHub for Mac is optimized to work with GitHub remotes — but if you wish to use a non-GitHub remote, it will work just fine. Set the remote manually in the settings tab and everything else should work as expected. So I presume in the settings you can do something similar. Run the mac workflow. Next, click here to go to the GitHub actions screen for the mac workflow, and then click the 'Run workflow' dropdown on the right, and then click the green 'Run workflow' button that appears. Access the shell using ssh or browser. After a few seconds, you'll see a spinning orange circle. Click the 'mac' hyperlink next to it. Download for macOS. There are several options for installing Git on macOS. Note that any non-source distributions are provided by third parties, and may not be up to date with the latest source release. GitHub Desktop Focus on what matters instead of fighting with Git. Whether you're new to Git or a seasoned user, GitHub Desktop simplifies your development workflow. Note that I’m on Windows so that may work a bit differently on Mac. You simply have to make a junction of your repository and point GitHub Desktop toward it. You can name the junction however you want while keeping the original folder intact. (And if you happen to use VS Code, the workspace will be named after the junction, which is nice too.).
Step 1: Download GitHub for Mac
First go to Mac.GitHub.com and click the download button, but first make sure you have Mac OS X 10.9 or later. You can't download with an earlier version of OS X.
Step 2: Move to Applications Folder
After the zip archive download, GitHub will appear in your downloads folder. Drag and drop into your Applications folder. Double click and open.

Step 3: Verify, Login, and Configure
Be patient. Verification only takes a few moments. Once you are verified you will connect to GitHub by logging into your GitHub account. Then you will configure your Git to identify you and the commits you make so that everyone else knows who you are and what you are doing. Anyone will be able to see your Git config and associated information. Then just find the local repositories you want to work on and you are good to go.
